Buckle Up is taking shape with one goal: to become the world’s fastest lobster boat. Owner Bob Tracy has brought together leading
boat and engine builders for the project, with racing planned for spring and summer 2027. For Bob, it’s a return to familiar waters.
He commercially fished throughout New England for 23 years and, in the early 1980s, owned a 33-foot wooden lobster boat,
Earnest Libby, which may have been the fastest lobster boat in the world at the time. Bob purchased that boat from Young Brothers
and believes it may have served as the mold for the 33-foot Sopwith Camel II lobster racing boat. Now he’s getting ready to see
just how fast Buckle Up can go!
